Traveling to Philippines and Laos

Question: My husband and I are planning a trip to the Philippines in Dec/Jan just over 3 weeks but we would also love to go to Laos have heard some wonderful things about Laos.

Do you think 2 weeks in the Philippines and 2 weeks in Laos would be long enough in each? Is it difficult to get from Manila to Laos? And is it costly? I know you don't need to pay for a visa if you stay in the Philippines for under 21 days. Do you need to pay for a visa, can you organize this before you fly in?"

"Do you think 2 weeks in the Philippines and 2 weeks in Laos would be long enough in each?"

It depends on what you want to do in these countries.... I personally think it's too short to stay just 2 weeks in the Philippines. There's so much to see... If you're fan of beach bumming, that alone can take 2 weeks. The same for Laos, if you want to really absorb the culture I recommend at least 3 weeks in Laos.

"Is it difficult to get from Manila to Laos? And is it costly?"

Whether it's expensive or not, depends on the season and when you buy the tickets. Search for the cheapest flights on kayak.com! Another cheap option is to buy a ticket through Air Asia, from Manila to Kuala Lumpur (it doesn't fly directly from Philippines to Laos). And then from KL to Vientiane.

Example for one person: for Jan 3, 2011 the total cost is 266 AUD (6953 PHP = 173 AUD Manila to KL + 3727 = 93 AUD KL to Vientiane)

You mean Lao visa right? You can get a visa when you arrive at Vientiane - or Luang Prabang airport. Think it's 30 USD for Australian citizens. Bring cash and two photos each.
