Looking for accommodation in Vientiane?
Most of the budget accommodation is centered around the fountain of Nam Phou, and some along Lane Xang Avenue. You'll also find budget options on Francois Ngin road, for instance Funky Monkey Hostel (45,000 kip dorm) and Mixay Paradise.
If you're picky about accommodation, you should book ahead. Otherwise, there's a drop-in/walk-in principle.
You show up and if they have rooms, you have one! If not, you move on to the next guesthouse.
Here are some options just for you! :D
Price per night: 40,000 kip (dorm in the high season)
If you're on a tight budget, a dorm at Mixay guesthouse is one of the cheapest you can get in Vientiane!
But you get what you pay for.
It's Spartan basic and the shared bathroom wasn't always clean. Most rooms have shared bathroom and are fan-cooled.
Where: 39 Th Nokeo Khumman
Price per night: $ 7-16 (single room/double room)
We stayed at Saysouly Guesthouse in November 2007.
For $8, we get a double room with fan and shared bathroom. The room was simple, clean and spacious enough, and the shared bathroom wasn't that bad. It wasn't overly clean, but not dirty either.
If you want to relax with a beer or just grab a smoke, they have a nice balcony facing the street!
The reason why we chose this guesthouse was because of its location.
It's just 3 minutes from the Mekong River where all the nice riverside restaurants are located.
Where: 23 Manthatulath Road
Our room at Saysouly guesthouse
Price per night: $ 22 (single room), $ 32 (double room)
We indulged ourselves in clean and spacious rooms, Western toilet, TV and hot showers. It's just a walking distance to shops and a 8-minutes walk to the river - it's located right in the middle of the town.
The staff was helpful and polite. Before leaving for Vientiane, we sent an booking e-mail. They responded the same day.
We couldn't ask for more - good value if you want a mid-range accommodation!
Where: 091 Nokeo Khummane Road
