Buying/shopping backpacking gear in the Philippines

A friend and I are going on a backpacking trip to Philippines. We are both from Denmark so everything here is quite expensive. We were thinking it might be better for the budget to buy most of the gear we would need (as according to the packing list on this site, thanks for all the info) when we arrive.

We will probably arrive to Manila and now I would like to hear suggestions on where to go and buy "backpacking gear" - like specific malls that a taxi driver might know about.

Answer: Hey Jon, I've got a couple of suggestions for you. Conquer Outdoor Equipment at Robinsons Mall in EDSA, Manila sells some backpacking gear like backpacks, sleeping bags, dry bags and organizers. Here's their website: Conquer Outdoor.

You also have ROX (Recreational Outdoor Exchange) which is the biggest outdoor shop in Southeast Asia. In Manila, it's located in Taguig City, in Bonafacio High Street in Fort Bonifacio. ROX offers the latest outdoor equipment for backpackers! They sell practically everything; backpacks, water purifiers, mini lanterns, Sea to Summit dry bags (good for snorkeling and diving trips!) clothing, footwear - you name it. They have a good collection, but I've heard it's expensive at ROX. Here's their website: ROX
