Sabah the Land Below the Wind - Borneo Malaysia

by Bernard Bauwens
(Kg. Kiau, Sabah, Malaysia Borneo)

Let me introduce myself first. I visited Sabah in Malaysia Borneo the first time in 1999 and fell in love with this country. After visiting several times Sabah I fell in love with my wife Mary and married her, so I relocated to Sabah from Belgium in 2005 and did translation for German groups that visited Sabah.

Yes I follow a course as a guide in Kuala Lumpur so I would have more knowledge of Malaysia. During those organized trips I realized visitors wanted to see Sabah in another relaxed way, not from A to B. That is why I start to organize those tours in a different way and give advice how to organize your tour through Sabah.

On request I do also your private transportation like driving you to Sandakan. But keep in mind I don't sell tours but memories and can drive you around Sabah with my car for maximum 4 people. Show you some spots like Nirvana - the most expensive graveyard in Malaysia on top of a hill where you have an unforgettably view of a bay.

As my wife Mary, a Kadazan Dusun is from Kampung Kiau (Kampung means village) we settled us here, just at the foot of Mount Kinabalu. Last year we set up a home stay together with 12 local families, so if you visit Mount and park Kinabalu, stay with the warm friendly locals and enjoy their hospitality of the Dusun.

You will feel home and part of the family. My hobbies are history and culture. Also I love off road driving, so I explore the whole area around Mount Kinabalu. Discover remote villages and beautiful environments. Kiau is the ancient village gateway to climb the mountain like Sir Low Hugh! Kiau is the starting point for Miki survival camp which I can gladly arrange for you - just let me know :-)

Hope to see you soon in Kiau! :-)

Beauty of Malaysia

I'm a blogger and forumer sharing travel experiences from time to time, mainly on Chinese Forum. Today, something came up from my mind thinking of searching some English traveling websites and found Malaysia is so left out in this.

Here some list of destination you shouldn't missed:

State of Historical, Cultural and Art:
Melaka, Penang.

State of Natural Sighseeing/Hiking:
Penang, Ipoh, Sabah Kota Kinabalu, Sarawak, Cameron Highlands, Fraser's Hill, Genting Highlands.

Beaches:
Redang Island, Perhentian Island, Lang Tengah Island, Pulau Sipadan, Langkawi Island (Free Trade Zone).

State of Food and Shopping:
Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Melaka, Johor.

I was born in southern region of Peninsular Malaysia and stayed in Melaka and Kuala Lumpur for some time. I finally moved North to the state of Penang and found it's a combination of natural, cultural, art and also rich in food and goods selection. It's basically the best of Malaysia for me!

The hidden charm of Malaysia, shouldn't be wasted. I hope there are more travelers found us and also hope the beauty of Malaysia remains.
