So, who needs a tourist visa for South Korea?

The nationals below don't need to apply for a South Korean tourist visa in advance, as long as you're only staying in the country for 90 days.

Instead, you get a visa stamp in your passport.

Europe: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland , United Kingdom.

Asia and Oceania: Australia, Bangladesh , Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey.

Americas: Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica , Common wealth of Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Surinam, Trinidad and Tobago, United States.

Africa: Liberia, Morocco, Tunisia.

The nationals below can stay in South Korea without a visa for 60 days:

Italy, Portugal, Lesotho.

These nationals can stay in South Korea without a tourist visa for 30 days:

Asia: Brunei, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Macao, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Yemen.

South America: Guatemala, Honduras, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela.

Europe: Albania, Cyprus, Monaco, Vatican.

Oceania: Fiji, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau, Nauru, New Caledonia.

Africa: Republic of South Africa, Swaziland

Citizens of Canada can stay in South Korea for 180 days without a tourist visa.

How to apply for a tourist visa

Visitors who intend to stay in South Korea for more than 30, 60, 90 or 180 days, must obtain a tourist visa in advance. That means that you have to apply for a tourist visa before you land in South Korea.

What are the South Korea visa requirements?

  • A valid passport for at least 6 months
  • Application form
  • A recent passport-size color photograph

Prices for South Korea Visa:

Visa fees below are only basic rates.

Single entry visa for maximum 90 days: US$30
Single entry visa for a stay of more than 90 days: US$50
Multiple entry visa: US$80
Double entry visa: US$60

For US citizens, multiple entry visa fee is US$45.

Visa extension

Extensions for tourist visas are possible in special cases such as accidents, health problems, flight cancellation, etc. Visitors may apply for a visa extension at a local immigration office in South Korea. Applications must be submitted at least one day prior to current visa's date of expiration.

Overstaying your South Korean tourist visa

Overstaying your visa is expensive and the cost starts at 100,000 won for an overstay of 90 days or less (source: US Embassy in Seoul Korea).
